Abstract

1. 1. The effect of temperature on Cs 137 metabolism in the oriental cockroach, Blatta orientalis, was studied following a single ingestion of the isotope. 2. 2. The extension of biological half-time resulting from lowering of temperature was greater than could be predicted from the reduction in metabolic rate which accompanied lowering of temperature. 3. 3. The retention of Cs 137 in the 10°C environment was in particular greater than would be expected from the retention of Cs 137 in the 20–30°C temperature range.
