Abstract

The paper is devoted to the study of AgBr – TlBr0.46I0.54 crystals. The phase diagram of this system was investigated by means of the combination of DTA and XRD methods. It was revealed that it has two regions of stable solid solutions at 25 °C: solid solutions based on AgBr contained 0–31 mol% of TlBr0.46I0.54 and solid solutions based on TlBr0.46I0.54 contained 0–27 mol% of AgBr. The impact of ionizing radiation on AgBr – TlBr0.46I0.54 crystal samples was investigated. It was revealed, that the samples possess a high stability to β radiation. For the most studied compositions, the transmittance increased (up to 0.7–5.3 %), and the maximum level of optical losses (11.5%) was shown by AgBr crystal with TlBr0.46I0.54 content of 1 mol% (λ = 3 μm). A series of AgBr – TlBr0.46I0.54 crystals was grown, IR fibers were produced from them and the optical properties of the fibers were investigated including the resistance to ionizing radiation.
