Abstract

Abstract The electrical resistivity of β 1 Mn 46 Zn 54 and β 1 Mn 56 Zn 44 alloys has been investigated in the temperature range 300K - 715K. The temperature dependence of the resistivity shows a unique variation upto 450K above which it undergoes a continuous change of slope. From the changes in slope it is understood that various crystallographic and magnetic phase transformations occur at different temperatures which are confirmed by X-ray diffraction and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The magnetic phase transition occuring at 550K is attributed to an apparent magnetic transition of the first kind.
