Abstract

Basic lead carbonate was prepared hydrothermally. Finely divided powder of the tetragonal polymorph PbO and distilled water were heated in an autoclave at 440°C at 18,000 lbs. per sq. in. for the crystal growth. Crystal morphology, X-ray diffraction data and optical properties are given. The refractive indices are: No 2.09, Ne 1.94. This is the pigment white lead and the natural mineral hydrocerrusite. -- AATA
