Abstract

A new water-based crystallization technology to minimize the water-related problems of concrete is presented in this study. This technology is dependent on the formation of sodium acetate crystals inside the pores of the concrete after concrete spray treatment with its aqueous solution. Results have indicated a significant reduction in water permeability, as a result of concrete treatment with this solution after full curing. Results have also indicated that an optimum solution of 20 wt % sodium acetate provides the best minimization of water penetration into concrete without altering the physical and performance properties of the concrete.
