Abstract

The synthesis of a new titanium silicate, TS-2 (having the MEL structure), has been studied in detail. The kinetics of crystallization has been studied using XRD power diffraction, optical microscopy, and framework i.r. spectroscopy. The influence of various synthesis parameters (such as SiO2TiO2 ratio, pH of the reaction mixture, concentration of organic base, and dilution levels) on the quality and yield of crystalline product has been investigated. The detrimental effect of adding NaOH to the reaction mixture on the incorporation of Ti in the framework was also studied systematically. The hydroxylation of phenol with H2O2 was employed as a test reaction for ascertaining the incorporation of Ti in the framework of titanium silicate molecular sieve (TS-2).
