Abstract

The crystallization behavior and magnetic properties have been investigated in melt-spun Pr 7Tb 1Fe 84.5Nb 1.5B 6 samples. A c-axis texture of 2:14:1 phase was observed in ribbons spun below 14 m/s. Samples spun above 40 m/s show an amorphous phase, which crystallizes into a TbCu 7 structure before it transforms into the 2:14:1 phase. At higher temperatures, (Pr,Tb) 1+ δ Fe 4B 4 phase precipitates from the matrix. Optimum magnetic properties are found with coercivity H c=8.6 kOe and (BH) max=17.3 MG Oe.
