Abstract

Linear low density polyethylenes (LLDPE) are copolymers of ethylene and ℝ-olefins, such as propene, 1-butene, 1-hexene, and 1-octene. The chain microstructure of LLDPE depends on the type, concentration and distribution of the short chain branches. Besides the molecular weight and molecular weight distribution, these factors influence the crystallization and molecular segregation behavior, the ultimate crystallinity and the semi-crystalline morphology of the copolymer. In this report, the influence of different types and contents of short chain branches on the thermal behavior and the morphology of LLDPE and the incorporation of the short chain branches in the crystal lattice for different types of LLDPE are reported.
