Abstract

Most of the published work indicates that turkey poults give little or no response to vitamin B12. Among the workers who have reported this are Patrick (1951) who has reviewed the pertinent literature to date, Stokstad and Jukes (1950), Almquist and Merritt (1951), and Singsen et al. (1950). Of the above workers only Almquist and Merritt appear to have used sexed poults in their experiments.Preliminary work in this laboratory in 1950 showed that Broad Breasted Bronze poults on a corn-soybean type diet responded to a supplement of crystalline vitamin B12, whether or not the ration contained an antibiotic. Poults used in these experiments were from hens fed a practical type ration containing added vitamin B12 and were started on experiment at one day of age.The basal ration (ET10) used had the following composition: yellow cornmeal, 450 lb.; soybean oil meal (solvent), 480 lb.; iodized sodium chloride, 10 lb.; .
