Abstract
The ground state wavefunction of the V4+ ion in different single crystals has been estimated using different spinhamiltonian constants obtained from ESR studies. The ground state wavefunction is the dxy type with a slight admixture of the excited states dx2–y2, dxz and dyz. The hyperfine interaction parameter has also been determined and the nature of the chemical binding in complexes has been explained on the basis of this parameter.
