Abstract

A single-crystal X-ray diffraction study substantiated that the target oxidizer molecule bis(2,2-dinitropropyl)-nitramine (BDNPN) had been synthesized. BDNPN crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2 with unit-cell dimensions a = 10.726(4) A, b = 5.922(3) A, c = 10.400(4) A, β = 110.01(3)°, with Z = 2 and a density of 1.72g/cm 3 . There are two molecules per unit cell which are approximately oriented along the c direction. The molecule contains two gem-dinitro groups and one planar nitramino group.
