Abstract

Bis(N-phenylthiourea) (BPTU) has been synthesized and characterized by means of X-ray, IR, Raman, UV-Vis, 1H NMR, and FAB mass spectra. The BPTU crystal belongs to the monoclinic C2/c space group with the cell constants a = 26.992(8) A, b = 6.336(3) A, c = 9.463(3) A, α = γ = 90°, β = 105.97(7)°, Z = 4. The compound has been found to exist in the thione form, with cis configuration of the thiosemicarbazone moiety and skew conformation of the molecule.
