Abstract

At ambient conditions blue prismatic crystals of the coordination complex (CC) diaquo-bis-pyrazine-2-carboxylato (Pca) copper (II); [CuII(Pca)2(H2O)2], CC1, has been synthesized by self-assembly method. The nanosized 1 is prepared using the same molar ratio in H2O by ultrasonic irradiation. The structure of CC1 is evaluated by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. CC1 and nanosized 1 are characterized by elemental analysis, spectroscopic methods, PXRD and TEM. The luminescence emissions of CC1 and nanosized 1 are studied and utilized to be used as sensors for detection of Fe3+ ion and nitrobenzene. The catalytic activities of nanosized 1 towards degradation of different organic dyes are performed in presence of H2O2 under ambient conditions, UV-light and ultrasonic irradiation. The nanosized 1 as heterogeneous catalyst exhibits high catalytic activity for degradation of eosin-Y (EO) and indigo carmine (IC) dyes. Mechanism of degradation using different scavenger techniques has been proposed and discussed. Catalytic oxidation process is mainly caused by OH radicals.
