Abstract

—Reaction of Cu(OAc) 2 · H 2O with the tripodal polybenzimidazole ligands tris (N-methyl-l-benzimidazol-2-yl) amine (L 1) and tris (N-ethyl-l-benzimidazol-2-yl)amine (L 2) in the presence of excess of NaClO 4 resulted in the formation of mononuclear Cu 11 complexes [Cu(L 1)(OAc)]ClO 4 · 1.5H 2O (1) and [Cu(L 2)(OAc)]ClO 4 · 1.5H 2O (2). The single-crystal structure of complex 1 was determined by X-ray diffraction. The geometry around Cu is best described as a distorted trigonal bipyramid comprising four nitrogen atoms from the tripodal ligand (L 1) and one oxygen atom from the monodentate ligand. The electrochemical behaviour of the complexes 1 and 2 was also described.
