Abstract

The crystal structure and magnetic properties of Tb 6FeSb 2 has been investigated for the first time. The compound crystallizes in the hexagonal, space group P 6 ¯ 2 m (No. 189) with the Ho 6FeSb 2 structure type and lattice parameters a = 8.1942(5) Å, c = 4.1758(3) Å, z = 1 and D calc = 8.564 g/cm 3. Its magnetic properties were measured between 85 and 420 K. The Curie temperature T c = 256 K was obtained using the method of intersecting tangents, and the effective paramagnetic moment was μ eff = 9.32 μ B per Tb atom.
