Abstract

In this study, the effect of surface morphology variation by pre-strain on low cycle fatigue life of austenitic stainless steel is investigated. The measurement results of surface roughness show surface roughness is increased by pre-strain. Crystal plasticity simulation is performed to measure the local strain range. Simulation results show that surface morphology variation by pre-strain does not affect the local strain range. This is because the strain concentration due to surface morphology is smaller than that due to crystal orientation. Therefore, there is no effect of surface morphology variation by pre-strain on fatigue life.
