Abstract

CeBr3 and Pr-doped CeBr3 (Pr:CeBr3) single crystals were grown by the halide-micro-pulling-down method, and the effects of Pr doping on the optical and scintillation properties of the CeBr3 single crystal were investigated. The emission peaks originating from the 4f–4f transition of Pr3+ ions were observed in the photoluminescence spectrum of the Pr:CeBr3 single crystal in addition to the emission peaks related to the 5d–4f transition of Ce3+ ions. The decay of fast and slow components under gamma-ray irradiation systematically accelerated with increasing Pr concentration while the light yield decreased.
