Abstract

Solid-solid reaction between maleic anhydride and some substituted aromatic amines viz. p-chloroaniline, p-bromoaniline, p-toluidine, p-anisidine, m-mitroaniline and β naphthylamine, leading to the formation of corresponding maleamic acids have been studied. The reaction product is characterized by chemical analysis, infrared spectra, and X-ray (powder) diffraction techniques. The crystal data for the different maleamic acids, along with observed and calculated d values for significant lines are also reported in this communication.
