Abstract
The relationships between structure and superconductivity of the mixed-valence copper oxides related to the perovskite are presented. The following points are discussed: oxygen non-stoichiometry, symmetry and extended defects. A particular attention is paid for the influence of Cu(III) (or Cu I I −O −) content upon T c : a model involving disporportionation of Cu(II) into Cu(III) and Cu(I) is presented for YBa 2Cu 3O 7− δ.
