Abstract

AbstractBased on a card index of intermetallic compounds the frequency of representatives for important structure types is described and their possible simultaneous occurrence within a binary system investigated. Considering the radius ratio, valence electron concentration and structure type the stability conditions for the individual cases of Laves‐phases are given besides those considerations typical for the whole group. From analogy for related systems Laves‐phases hitherto unknown are predicted. The effect of electron concentration and radius ratio on the structure of Laves‐phases is discussed.
