Abstract

One method of plasma injection [1] has been proposed to produce very low beam emittance in simulation. The low emittance, however, makes it extremely challenging to separate the witness bunch from the drive bunch without degrading the witness bunch. We propose to use crystal channeling as an experimental method to distinguish the low emittance witness bunch from the drive bunch and to extract density information without significantly degrading the witness bunch. In this paper we will introduce the method and describe the principles of crystal channeling, analytical calculations and numerical modeling.
