Abstract

The title compound [Cu(C9H18N4)]SO4·3H2O [A] was studied by X-ray and IR spectroscopy. It crystallises as monoclinic, in the space group P21/c with a=9.719(2), b=13.470(3), c=12.865(3)Å, β=95.36(3) and Z=4. The copper atom is five-coordinated with four nitrogen atoms and one oxygen atom from the sulphate group, forming a tricyclic chelated norspermine complex consisting of three six-membered rings, one of which is disordered. The amine groups from norspermine are hydrogen bonded to the sulphate anions. The water molecules of crystallisation form infinite (H2O)n chains and through the sulphate anions link the norspermine complexes in the three-dimensional hydrogen bond network. The FT-IR spectra before and after dehydration of [A] confirm the X-ray results.
