Abstract
Single crystal structure determination of the title compound shows that the molecule contains a Mo-Mo quadruple bond [4Mo-Mo = 2.164(1) A] between two atoms differing in both formal oxidation state (+ 1 and + 3) and coordination number (4 and 3). This combination of electronic and stereochemical asymmetry makes the compound quite unique within the general class of metalmetal multiply bonded species.
