Abstract

Most colleges and universities require students to take a course in mathematics or mathematical reasoning in order to satisfy their general education requirements. Given the diverse areas of mathematics that the subject of cryptology touches upon, it can make an excellent vehicle through which to introduce students to mathematics they might otherwise miss. In particular it can serve this purpose for students from a wide variety of backgrounds with very different levels of mathematical preparation.
