Abstract

The rhythmic alternation of detrital clastic deposits and reef limestones which characterizes the Frasnian sequence of southern Belgium reflects variations in the depth of the upper Devonian geosynclinal basin caused by tilting movements which produced both subsidence of the basin floor and uplift of the hinterland.
