Abstract

A multi-user quantum key distribution protocol [C.H. Hong et al., Opt. Commun. 283 (2010) 2644] was proposed, in which any two among n users of the system can communicate with each other, even though there is no direct quantum channel between them. Nevertheless, we show that the mediator Trent, who performs entanglement swapping in this protocol, has a way to eavesdrop on the communication between the two users without being detected. We also give an effective method to solve the security leak.
