Abstract

A termination in the development of the high temperature superconducting (HTS) cable is very important because it requires thermal insulation as well as electrical insulation. We studied the cryogenic insulation properties of epoxy as a solid insulator for electrical and thermal design of 250 kV class HVdc HTS cable terminations. Electrical characteristics of the epoxy are crucial element in the electrical insulation design of the HVdc HTS cable termination. Therefore, we studied the characteristics of the breakdown and the surface discharge of the epoxy. The results were compared with the characteristics of breakdown and surface discharge of FRP.
