Abstract

Cryochemical (or fre eze-drying) synthesis, which was invented three decades ago, is proving to be a versatile approach for preparing numerous inorgar:ric materials. The simplicity of the operations plus the wide range of commercially available equipment makes this method applicable both in materials research laboratories and for the small-scale production of a large variety of reagents and materials. Cryochemical synthesis is particularly useful for preparing finely dispersed complex oxides and composites. Their increasing commercial use presents a major opportunity for the industrial application of free ze-drying and othercryochemical techniques.
