Abstract

We describe the incidental finding of a recanalised paraumbilical vein and splenomegaly. This cohort of features in portal hypertension is diagnostic of a rare condition namely Cruveilhier-Baumgarten syndrome. In this patient the demonstration of the large and tortuous vein by CT imaging avoided catastrophic haemorrhage from a planned hysterectomy and served as a road map for surgical planning.
