Abstract

The dispersion of fundamental-mode Rayleigh waves for several paths in Fennoscandia is consistent with the geological setting for the Baltic shield. Additional dispersion data indicate that the Barents Sea is a shield as well. The dispersion under the Baltic Sea is similar to the north-central United States, suggesting the extension of the mantle shield structure beneath the continental Paleozoic sedimentary cover.
