Abstract

The effect of crucible rotation on the diffusion boundary layer thickness is investigated and a small decrease found for co-rotation at around 12% of the crystal rotation rate. Counter-rotation or rapid co-rotation produce flow patterns likely to have an adverse effect on crystal growth in the steady state. The implications of the changes in flow pattern of accelerated crucible rotation are examined.
