Abstract

The construction industry is accountable for a significant number of safety lapses, making it one of the sectors with the highest occurrence of accidents within our country. While there has been a noticeable shift towards prioritizing safety in the construction field, the mortality rate at work sites has not shown a substantial decrease. Notably, the urban regions have experienced a higher mortality rate due to the surge in infrastructure development, rapid population growth, and limited land availability. These factors have led to an increased demand for constructing high-rise buildings to address these challenges. This research paper presents a comprehensive study accomplished through statistical analysis, data collection, and interviews with various stakeholders at diverse construction sites in Bengaluru, particularly those involving high-rise buildings. Additionally, on-site observation surveys were conducted to evaluate the safety performance of these projects. The study's findings encapsulate critical factors contributing to the lack of safety performance. These insights hold the potential to assist construction stakeholders in enhancing health and safety measures at work sites, thereby facilitating a safer environment for all involved.
