Abstract

Mutual communications and precise recognitions between the male side pollen and female side pistil are crucial for successful fertilization. Catharanthus roseus receptor-like kinases (CrRLK1Ls) participate in pleiotropic biological processes of plant growth, development and defense responses. In this review, we summarize the recent studies on CrRLK1Ls-mediated pollen-pistil interactions, focusing on the key regulatory elements and the underlying molecular mechanisms. Furthermore, the downstream reactive oxygen species, the Ca2+ signaling and some important questions are discussed for future directions.
