Abstract
Two papers in Cell uncover reciprocal crosstalk of local translation and mitochondria in neurons. Rangaraju etal. (2019) observe tethered compartments of stable mitochondria in dendrites that provide a local energy supply for mRNA translation at synapses. Cioni etal. (2019) report a novel association of axonal RNA granules with Rab7a-late endosomes that provides a platform for local translation supporting mitochondria.
