Abstract

The existence of cross-quadratic terms involving modes of different symmetry in the nuclear potential of the excited electronic states corresponding to the visible and Soret (UV) bands of metalloporphyrins is elucidated. The “intrastate” and “interstate” sources of these terms are discussed for various degrees of mixing of the two lowest excited allowed electronic configurations.
