Abstract

Hybrid stochastic differential equations are used to study the approach to the continuum limit of SU(3) gauge theory with four species of light quarks. Measurements of 〈 ψ ψ〉 on an 8 4 lattice indicate a narrow, abrupt crossover from strong to weak coupling behavior for β=6/ g 2 between 5.00 and 5.10. The data is compatible, within statistical errors, with asymptotic scaling incorporating fermion vacuum polarization effects correctly for β≳5.10.
