Abstract

A new approach in terms of the transmission of multimedia applications over Wireless Sensor Network has given rise to new technologies, namely Wireless Multimedia Sensor Network (WMSN). However, multimedia data consisting of video, images, audio, and scalar data require Quality of Service (QoS) which differ based on application need. For that a new approach based on a model of cross-layer design is proposed. H.264/SVC and IEEE 802.11e EDCA standard are utilized in the model of cross-layer design to optimize the existing protocols. From the obtained data, video applications can obtain the bandwidth, and end-to-end delay of packets (latency) defined by Quality of Service (QoS) during transmission process via Wireless Multimedia Sensor Network (WMSN). So the cross-layer design model has managed to optimize multimedia transmission via Wireless Multimedia Sensor Network (WMSN).
