Abstract

We investigate the cross-layer design for the packet scheduling and resource allocation in the orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) wireless networks. Our focus is the efficiency of the resource management scheme from the practical point of view. For physical (PHY) layer, an efficient resource allocation algorithm with low computational complexity is proposed to cope with the frequency selective fading. A packet scheduler at medium access control (MAC) is also designed in order to utilize the properties of packet data system. The resource allocator and the scheduler are tightly coupled together through the cross-layer approach. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme utilizes the resources effectively while guaranteeing the quality of service (QoS).
