Abstract
ABSTRACT This article examines four novels by Peter Abrahams which discuss themes of conquest, liberation, and postcolonial challenges. Abrahams criss-crosses a variety of boundaries in Africa and its diaspora, some policed by harsh white rule. In his struggle for political freedoms he explores the formidable challenges of building a new society and explores a variety of contradictions imposed not only by history but by contemporary power relations.
