Abstract
In this paper I shall address myself to five questions that I believe to be important for the development of cross-cultural research in arts education. First, what is the state of cross-cultural research in arts education? Second, what are the potential utilities of such research? Third, what kinds of problems might be studied? Fourth, what are the possible problems in conceptualizing, implementing, and interpreting crosscultural research in arts education? Fifth, what are the prospects for cross-cultural research in arts education? Let us consider each in the order in which it was presented.
