Abstract
AbstractThe design teams responsible for developing sustainable packagings often lack sufficient knowledge to generate different solution concepts. This lack of knowledge is an obstacle to the effective development of sustainable packagings. In order to facilitate the generation of sustainable packagings concepts, this study proposes design heuristics for sustainable packagings concept generation (DHFSP), a collection of design heuristics that can provide sustainable design teams with the information they need for sustainable packagings design concept generation. A step-by-step process for constructing a DHFSP for sustainable packagings is presented, an example of a sustainable packaging is developed, and the usefulness of the DHFSP in aiding concept generation for sustainable packagings is validated through an empirical evaluation.KeywordsSustainable designDesign heuristicDesign knowledge
