Abstract

The use of crosscorrelation as a tool for analyzing motion in complex systems leads to the necessity of understanding crosscorrelation of dispersive waves. Starting from basic principles, the crosscorrelation of any form of dispersive wave has been derived. Special cases that have been considered are water waves and flexural waves in a thin beam. Exact and approximate formulations for the crosscorrelation of waves of frequency-bandlimited noise have been considered. Experiments with flexural waves in single- and multiple-path systems have provided excellent verification of theoretical predictions.
