Abstract

Pipeline leakage will not only causes great loss of economy, but also leads to serious pollution to the environment. With the ageing of long distance pipelines which transports oil and gas, the development of pipeline leakage detection and location techniques have been paid more attention. In this paper, cross-correlation method is used to locate pipeline leakage. It is a very important part in the pipeline leakage monitor system due to the demand of location accuracy. In the field experiment, the absolute pressure transmitter and the developed dynamic pressure sensor are used. Cross-correlation method is used to process the signals collected by the above two kinds of pressure sensors. The simulated pipeline leakage was carried out at one long distance pipeline in which product oil was transported. The experiment proves that cross-correlation method can be used to locate pipeline leakage accurately.
