Abstract

Mothers of 182 nursery school children between 3 and 7 years of age completed the Behavior Style Questionnaire (BSQ) and the Child Personality Scale (CPS). Intercorrelational analyses showed many significantly correlated items. The following pairs shared a high degree of common variance: CPS attention and BSQ persistence, CPS modulation and BSQ activity, CPS sociability and BSQ approach-withdrawal. Distractibility did not correlate significantly with any CPS factors. Mood and adaptability correlated significantly with all five CPS factors. Scores of the five CPS factors clearly distinguished between Ss in easy BSQ clusters and in difficult BSQ clusters. Boys were scored as significantly more introverted and hyperactive compared to girls, while older Ss were scored significantly higher for attention span compared to younger Ss.
