Abstract
Question: Are preoperative and postoperative perianesthesia nurses required to train to provide care to both the preoperative patient as well as the patient requiring Phase I and Phase II care? I am a same day nurse. Our facility is considering having us take call with a postanesthesia care (PACU) nurse. I have no critical care training. I am concerned about my responsibilities, my scope of practice, and the legality of caring for patients in PACU. I am worried about being in a position that I am not comfortable with.
