Abstract
Starting from a simplified and idealised model, an expression for the formation cross section of nucleides by the bombardment of high-energy protons on a medium-weight nucleus has been derived from a statistical approach which, with the help of a few reliable experimental data, could give the cross sections of the whole series of the nucleides that might be formed from such target. It is applied to the targets V, Mn, Fe, Co, Ga, As, Y and Nb. Considering the level of accuracy of the experimental cross sections, the calculated values agree fairly well with the experimental ones.
