Abstract
The cross sections for the production of 9Be and 10Be from the 880 MeV α-particle bombardment of carbon have been measured to be 10.6 ± 1.7 and 6.5 ± 1.4 mb. These values are essentially twice the high-energy proton cross sections. It is shown that the effect of the interstellar helium on the distribution of berylium isotopes in cosmic rays is thus less important than had been anticipated.
