Abstract
The cross section of the pair production in germanium at 1064 keV, only 42 keV above threshold, has been measured with the use of a Ge(Li) detector. The obtained cross section is 0.182 mb/atom and has a large deviation from the theoretical value by \O{}verb\o{}, Mork, and Olsen. The present result suggests that the screening effect of atomic electrons has a large contribution to the pair-production cross section near threshold.
