Abstract
ABSTRACT The point of departure for this study is Wolfgang's classic study of homicide in Philadelphia. The first part of the paper discussess, from a cross-national comparative perspective, similarities and differences in the patterns of homicide in Philadelphia from 1948-1952 and in Stockholm from 1951-1959. Special attention is given in the discussion to the differences between the two countries regarding race, availability of guns, and existence of slum areas and their possible relevance for patterns in homicide. The second part of the paper deals with changes in the patterns of homicide in Stockholm over the period 1951-1987.
