Abstract
Due to data forwarding and path selection based on MAC address, wireless LAN mesh network (WMN) requires additional operations to achieve global connectivity using IPv6 address. This letter proposes the cross-layered neighbor discovery scheme for optimized IPv6 communication over WMN by combining path discovery messages in MAC layer with IPv6 neighbor discovery messages. Through simulation, it is shown that the cross-layered neighbor discovery scheme can significantly reduce the control overhead and communication setup latency.
